Positioning in Dota 2 is a crucial skill that can greatly influence your success in battles and overall gameplay.
IT’S THE STARTEGY THINGS!
Understanding and mastering positioning will enhance your survivability, maximize your impact in team fights, and help you make better decisions in various situations.
Positions are divided according to the amount of in-game resources earned, with position 1 being the most and 5 the least.
Let’s delve deeper into the different positions in Dota 2:
POSITION 1
(aka. Carry)
The position 1 (POS1), also known as the carry, is typically played in the safe lane (bottom lane for the Radiant team and top lane for the Dire team).
The carry’s primary goal is to farm as efficiently as possible!
Acquiring gold and experience to become the late-game powerhouse. Carries usually rely on high damage output and scaling abilities to dominate team fights in the later stages of the game. As a carry, your positioning is crucial to avoid unnecessary deaths and ensure a steady farm.
POSITION 2
(aka. midlaner)
The position 2 (POS2), or midlaner, controls the middle lane.
Midlaners often possess strong abilities and high levels of burst damage, making them potent gankers and playmakers.
They require good positioning to control the midlane, secure last-hits, and deny the enemy midlaner’s farm. The midlaner’s positioning should prioritize maintaining vision, avoiding ganks, and seizing opportunities to make rotations to other lanes.
POSITION 3
(aka. Offlaner)
The position 3 (POS3), or offlaner, takes on the challenging task of soloing the offlane (top lane for Radiant, bottom lane for Dire)
Offlaners are typically tanky heroes (Strength heroes) capable of surviving in difficult matchups and disrupting the enemy’s farm.
Positioning is crucial for offlaners to find the right balance between gaining experience and gold while avoiding unnecessary deaths. They often initiate team fights, creating space for the carries and setting up kills for their team.
POSITION 4
(aka. Support)
The position 4 (POS4 or SUP4), also known as the support or roamer, plays a critical role in the early stages of the game.
They move around the map, assisting teammates, setting up kills, and providing vision through wards.
Supports are responsible for controlling the game’s tempo and ensuring their team’s success during the laning phase. Positioning as a support involves staying hidden, finding opportunities to initiate, and protecting vulnerable allies during team fights.
POSITION 5
(aka. Hard support)
The position 5 (POS5 or SUP5), or hard support, focuses on providing vision, sustaining the team with healing items, and protecting the carry during the laning phase.
Position 5 heroes often have crowd control abilities and powerful team-fight spells.
As a hard support, your positioning is critical during team fights, ensuring that you stay alive to provide assistance and disable key enemy heroes.
